Security Specialist

The starting hourly rate is $20.25 USD per hour. Pay range: $20.25 - $30.40 USD per hour.

The Assets Protection (AP) team protects guests, team members, and the brand by mitigating theft, fraud, and shortage risks, managing crisis events, and building relationships with store leaders and public safety officials.

• Use intelligence-led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure.
• Respond to crises, manage safety and crowds, and support both guests and team members.
• Apply de‑escalation techniques and maintain a safety culture.
• Operate Target’s video surveillance system and document incidents accurately in the case management system.
• Deliver a friendly guest experience: greet, assist, and thank guests warmly.
• Assist peers, adjust to business needs, and support team efforts with a positive attitude.
• Maintain safe standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
• Respond to and document security incidents promptly.
• Leverage de‑escalation tactics during store incidents.
• Recover merchandise and support theft apprehension as needed, following AP policies.
• Prevent theft and shortage by checking merchandise receipts and identifying trends.
• Use the video surveillance system effectively.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
• Work safely at all times, following all safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as required by business needs.

• At least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet any state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
• Enjoy interacting with guests and teammates.
• Thrive in a fast‑moving, physically demanding environment that requires teamwork, flexibility, and problem‑solving.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices, operate handheld scanners, and use other technology equipment.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and within a team, prioritizing tasks effectively.
• Calm, focused performance under a fast‑paced workload.
• Capability to climb ladders and handle merchandise up to 40 pounds.
• Remain mobile and work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions.
• Accept scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
