Job Description

The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Family Engagement Specialist will work with Wilmington Public Schools to provide wellness support, case management services and resources to students and families, to overcome the challenges presented, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This position will be an essential collaborator to create and provide multi-tiered social emotional learning intervention support aimed at fostering the well-being of each child to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.

The SEL and Family Engagement Specialist promotes the vision of WPS by providing an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative learning environment where all stakeholders are engaged in the development of the whole child.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintain ongoing caseload and data to track student concerns and progress; assess student and family needs and monitor indicators of mental health and/or additional supports needed.
  • Assist with and utilize behavioral health, social emotional or school climate screening tools and data systems to provide a coordinated approach to individual and district wide ESL interventions.
  • Support students throughout the school day by providing evidence based therapeutic interventions through the whole group, small group, and individual short term counseling to promote healthy coping skills development and resilience strategies.
  • Collaborate with staff and teams in the development and implementation of multi-tiered systems of social emotional targeted interventions at the building level, including mental health and improved behavior management.
  • Provide resources and referrals for community support services and act as an ongoing liaison between families and outside agencies.
  • Provide crisis intervention. Appropriately triage students, assess risk, and provide referral if needed.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Services and Coordinator of Behavioral Health and Social Emotional Support to implement district wide social emotional learning (SEL).
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Position Type: Full-time

Salary: $82,500 to $87,000 Per Year

Job Requirements
  • Masters Degree in Social Work or other licensed Mental Health Provider
  • MA DESE License as a Social Worker, School Psychologist, School Adjustment Counselor preferred
  • Three (3) years clinical experience in a school setting preferred
  • Safety Care trained, preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including students with disabilities and demonstrates cultural sensitivity to promote access and engagement for all families
  • At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
