Principal Software EngineerDesign and develop simulation systems and tools that support the design, development, qualification, and deployment of large‑scale integrated robotic systems. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams of software engineering, system design, and data science to drive strategic decisions and optimize complex systems.
Responsibilities- Develop high‑performance simulation tools and environments that run faster than real‑time and support key design decisions for new systems and products.
- Create simulations that transform production data, generate synthetic datasets when necessary, and build experiment pipelines for end‑to‑end automation.
- Analyze and evaluate existing simulation tools; drive improvements for speed, scalability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness across Symbotic’s development teams.
- Lead the design and implementation of a hierarchy of simulation capabilities for component and integrated system‑level digital twins.
- Own the simulation tools ecosystem—individual robots, perception, controls, fleet‑level operations, routing, and system‑wide simulations used in testing and feature design.
- Scope and specify project requirements, providing senior leadership with deep technical insight to shape long‑term technical roadmaps.
- Mentor team members to foster innovative solutions and higher productivity.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 12 years of software engineering experience with expertise in simulation environments and optimization solutions.
- Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and object‑oriented design.
- Experience with data transformation, ETL pipelines, and data wrangling using Pandas, Num Py, SQL, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with state‑of‑the‑art simulation techniques and ability to architect complex, hierarchical simulation systems with varying fidelity levels.
- Direct experience with data science workflows: experimentation, statistical analysis, and visualization.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying results and concepts to leadership.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, iterative environment.
- Machine learning and cloud‑computing models and tools for simulation training.
- Up to 10% travel; valid driver’s license required.
- Must be able to drive and/or fly to client and customer locations.
- Responsible for credit‑card expenses, reimbursed bi‑weekly.
Base salary range: $180,000 – $247,500, subject to variation based on experience and skills.
