Senior Accountant

CAP3 | Wilmington, NC | In-Office

Be More Than an Accountant. Help Run the Business.

CAP3 is looking for a
Senior Accountant to join our team in Wilmington, NC. This is a hands-on accounting role for someone who enjoys more than simply checking accounts and preparing financial statements.

Our Senior Accountants are a critical part of the team responsible for making sure our clients' financial information is
accurate, timely, understood, and useful.

You'll work closely with many on our team to review client financials, lead the month-end close process, prepare financial reporting packages, and help clients understand their current cash position and upcoming needs through the preparation of cash projections.

This is a great role for someone who has a strong accounting foundation but also wants to understand
how the numbers connect to the day-to-day operation of a business.

What You'll Do Own the Month-End Close

You will be a key member of our Month-End Team, responsible for making sure client books are closed accurately and on time.

  • Perform regular reviews of client financials throughout the month
  • Identify unusual activity, errors, missing transactions, and potential issues before month-end
  • Prepare and complete month-end close procedures
  • Review balance sheet accounts and ensure appropriate reconciliations are completed
  • Analyze income statement and balance sheet activity
  • Investigate variances and unusual fluctuations
  • Work with Transaction and AP team members to resolve outstanding items
  • Coordinate with client leads on issues requiring additional review
  • Ensure financial statements are accurate, complete, and ready for client presentation
Prepare Client Financial Reporting Packages

The numbers are only valuable if they can be understood and used.

  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for clients
  • Compile financial statements, dashboards, and supporting reports
  • Review financial results for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify significant trends, variances, and items requiring attention
  • Help translate accounting information into clear explanations
  • Provide client leads with the information they need to effectively advise clients
  • Continually look for ways to improve the quality and usefulness of client reporting
Weekly Cash Budget & Cash Management

You'll also have a direct role in helping clients understand and manage their cash.

  • Prepare weekly cash budgets and cash flow projections
  • Review current cash balances and expected inflows and outflows
  • Identify upcoming cash needs and potential cash constraints
  • Review outstanding bills and upcoming payments
  • Identify payments requiring client approval
  • Help prioritize payments based on available cash and business needs
  • Communicate cash needs and concerns to the appropriate internal team members
  • Identify potential cash flow issues before they become problems
  • Help clients maintain a clear picture of where their cash is going
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can own the accounting process
, not someone who simply completes a checklist.

The right person is:

  • Analytical – You don't just look at a number; you ask why it changed.
  • Detail-oriented – You understand that small accounting errors can create big problems.
  • Proactive – You identify issues before someone has to tell you about them.
  • Business-minded – You understand that financial statements tell a story about how a business is operating.
  • Organized – You can manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Accountable – When you own something, you see it through.
  • Communicative – You can clearly explain an accounting issue to someone who isn't an accountant.
