** Primoris Energy Services’ Mechanical contracting group is seeking a driven Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support our growing business group. This role blends project coordination, technical support, and field exposure to help ensure successful delivery of complex mechanical and civil construction projects. The position is primarily office-based, with regular field interface and travel to project sites across the Southeast U.S.Candidates with experience in piping systems, process and utility equipment, central plant systems (heating/cooling), underground utilities, and civil sitework are strongly encouraged to apply.
As an Assistant Project Manager, you will play a critical role in planning, coordinating, and executing projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and client representatives to support all aspects of project execution from preconstruction through closeout.
** Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
*** Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors, including bid solicitation, leveling, and buyout support.
* Develop, review, and manage submittals in accordance with contract documents, specifications, and drawings.
* Initiate, track, and manage RFIs; coordinate design clarifications with engineers, clients, and vendors.
* Interpret construction drawings and specifications to support field operations and resolve technical issues.
* Assist with quantity takeoffs and preparation of material purchase requisitions.
* Support development and maintenance of project budgets, schedules, forecasts, and progress reporting.
* Track project costs, quantities, labor productivity, and assist in variance analysis
* Identify scope gaps, changed conditions, and potential risks; support change order development, pricing, and documentation.
* Maintain accurate project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, and logs.
* Coordinate closely with Superintendents to ensure alignment between project plans and field execution.
* Perform jobsite visits to monitor progress, verify work in place, support quality control, and assist in issue resolution.
* Support coordination and performance of subcontractors across multiple trades.
* Assist in development of construction planning, logistics, and execution strategies.
* Track and expedite material deliveries to support field operations.
* Participate in project meetings with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
* Promote and support a strong safety culture in coordination with field leadership and HSE teams.
* Ensure compliance with contract requirements, company standards, and safety regulations.
* Contribute to value engineering efforts to optimize cost, constructability, and schedule.
* Support project closeout including punch list management, turnover documentation, and final deliverables.
* Travel as required for meetings, pre-bid walks, and site visits.
** Key Skills, Experience, and
Qualifications:
*** 3 to 8 years of experience in construction, engineering, or project management support roles (Project Engineer, Field Engineer, APM, etc.).
* Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
* Strong understanding of construction processes, particularly in mechanical systems, piping, utilities, and civil work.
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
* Experience with submittals, RFIs, procurement, and change management processes.
* Basic understanding of cost control, scheduling, and construction project financials.
* Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
* Effective communication skills across field, office, and client stakeholders.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); experience with project management…
