Insight Consulting Group is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business with offices in Wilmington & Goldsboro, NC. The staff of Insight have been providing high-quality services in disaster recovery, resiliency & mitigation, community development, and planning & zoning for over 25 years.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Manager/Inspector to support our recovery related construction projects in Avery County, North Carolina. This role is ideal for an individual with construction management, inspection, scheduling, and cost-estimating experience who enjoys working in the field and helping communities recover and rebuild following disasters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary field representative for assigned disaster recovery construction projects.
  • Conduct construction inspections to ensure work is completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, contracts, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor contractor performance, project schedules, budgets, and construction progress.
  • Develop, review, and maintain project schedules and coordinate schedule updates with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Perform quantity verification, unit-price calculations for construction activities.
  • Document site conditions, project milestones, deficiencies, and corrective actions through field reports and photographs.
  • Coordinate with local governments, contractors, engineers, utility providers, FEMA representatives, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist with project documentation, compliance monitoring, and closeout activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FEMA requirements, state and federal regulations, environmental requirements, and applicable funding requirements.
  • Attend project meetings, site visits, and stakeholder coordination meetings as required.
  • Identify potential project risks and recommend solutions to maintain project schedules and budgets.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in construction management, construction inspection, public infrastructure projects, or disaster recovery construction projects .
  • Experience with unit pricing, quantity verification, construction cost estimating, and change-order review .
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling and project controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, contracts, and engineering documents.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accurate project records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and construction documentation software.
Education & Experience:
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in construction management, project management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant construction experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of three to five years of applicable construction management, inspection, or project oversight experience preferred.
Physical & Other Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds .
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain and active construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, embankments, and navigate outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license required with an acceptable driving record.
  • Frequent field work and travel throughout Avery County and surrounding areas.
  • Candidates not residing within reasonable commuting distance of Avery County must be willing to stay locally during the work week as required.
