Assistant Project Manager – Large Commercial Construction
Location:
Charlotte, NC;
Wilmington, NC;
Hilton Head, SC
Employment Type:
Full-Time | Direct Hire Compensation: $60,000–$80,000 (depending on level of experience) + discretionary annual bonus
Schedule:
Monday – Friday | 100% onsite at project site
The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for assisting the Project Manager with managing the project life cycle process on assigned projects. They must assist in obtaining project pricing, budgeting, estimating, detailing, management of subcontractors/vendors, and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities- Assists in maintaining a safe and secure work environment by coordinating safety meetings, incident investigations, and maintaining employee involvement.
- Responsible for assisting project managers and superintendents in executing the project life cycle.
- Works with the Project Manager to ensure proper planning and management of the installation of HVAC and plumbing to ensure that the installation meets code and project requirements and is brought in on time and under budget.
- Participates in operational, corporate, and departmental meetings, as required to successfully execute the project and/or departmental goals.
- Assists the Project Manager in the preparation of vendor and subcontractor purchase orders, submittals, and shop drawings to reflect contract drawings, specifications, and estimates.
- Actively participates in monthly reports and cost reviews, capturing deviations from plan or schedule.
- Works with project team as necessary in order to bring the project in on time and under budget.
- Assists the Project Manager as needed with estimating change orders, project documentation, and project closeout, including commissioning requirements.
- Responsible for actively participating with the project team on all facets of the project life cycle to ensure project goals are met, while developing a skill set to progress one's career in the mechanical industry.
- Education, Experience, and
Qualifications:
0–2 years of applicable field work experience with a mechanical subcontractor in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems. - Experience working on large MEP commercial construction projects.
- Must be able to read construction plans and specifications.
- Hands‑on experience in craft supervision and labor coordination.
- Thorough knowledge of construction technology, scheduling, equipment, and methods.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail‑orientated and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast‑paced environment.
- Well‑versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors.
- Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
- Required Education, Experience, and
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management. - Ability to process submittals.
- Experience working on large commercial hospital/healthcare projects.
