Position Overview
The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is seeking a Lecturer in Criminology beginning August 2026. This nine‑month non‑tenure track, fixed‑term position carries a teaching load of four courses per semester, with potential for additional summer school instruction. Instructors must be available for on‑campus teaching in Wilmington and may also provide asynchronous online instruction.
This role offers opportunities for promotion to higher non‑tenure track ranks for eligible instructors and is renewable based on performance, departmental needs, and funding availability.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in criminology and sociology, including both face‑to‑face and online formats.
- Direct undergraduate student research as needed.
- Provide service to the Department of Sociology and Criminology.
- Keep current with new and developing knowledge and issues in the field.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, or a closely related field at the time of application.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience- Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, or a closely related field at the time of application.
- Experience teaching online and face‑to‑face introductory and upper‑level courses in criminology and sociology, particularly in the area of law and society.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and fostering student learning.
- Potential for innovation and leadership in both teaching and service.
- Cover Letter/Letter of Application that includes a statement describing teaching experience and interests addressed to the Search Committee Chair.
- Teaching Evaluation – Evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as quantitative student course evaluations, peer observations, or qualitative student evaluations. Please submit as a single document under "Teaching Evaluation 1."
