Assistant Director for Transition Initiatives
This position is part of the Center for Academic Advising (CAA) and supports student success through transitional support programs and advising efforts, promoting holistic student development. The Assistant Director of Transition will plan and implement the CAA’s role in the advising and registration process for new CAA students (freshmen and transfer students). The role includes creating and implementing training for various stakeholders, identifying student learning outcomes and stakeholder needs, and staying current on best practices through assessment and research to reflect university needs.
The ADT will communicate effectively and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Transition Programs, Admissions, the Office of the Assistant Provost for Academic Advising (OAPAA), OAPAA Business Office, and CAA team members. Responsibilities also include coordinating spring and summer orientation sessions, managing the Pre-Orientation Course Registration process, advising First-Year Spring Admits, coordinating Group Advising, serving on task forces or committees, and providing direct advising as needed to support the Center for Academic Advising.

Assistant Director for Transition Initiatives
The Assistant Director of Transition (AD T) reports to the Director in the Center for Academic Advising and leads efforts related to advising and registration for new CAA students. The role includes training development for students and campus offices involved in these processes, and ensuring training aligns with learning outcomes and campus needs. The ADT will support advising services by coordinating orientation sessions, course registration processes, and advising practices for various student groups, and by participating in committees or task forces as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience- Master’s degree and ≥5 years of related higher education experience, including at least 3 years with increasing responsibility in academic advising or orientation programming.
- Experience planning, executing, and leading processes involving data, large groups of students and families.
- Experience in advising students from varied backgrounds in both in-person and online environments.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills and commitment to high-quality customer service.
- Experience with and/or ability to use and learn software and platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Starfish, Degree Plans, Zoom, and technology-based advising delivery systems).
- Experience supervising and evaluating employees in a complex organization.
- Experience working in a matrix organization.
- Experience working with early career students (first-time freshmen and transfer students).
- Experience planning and coordinating student support services (orientation and group advising); strong team collaboration.
- Proven advising, coaching and communication skills with a diverse student population.
- Program development, implementation and evaluation experience with strong attention to detail.
