Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The School of Nursing within the College Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding faculty member for a Distinguished Professorship in oncology nursing research and who meets the rank requirements of a tenured professor. This is a nine-month position scheduled to begin August 2026. This position is for an initial five-year term, and, upon review, the distinguished professor is eligible to receive two renewable five-year appointments.
This Distinguished Professorship in oncological nursing is a prestigious designation for a faculty member who has earned prominence for scholarly and professional achievements in oncological nursing research. The Distinguished Professor will be responsible for scholarly teaching, research, and practice that advances the understanding of oncology and oncological nursing with a national/international reputation and a portfolio of recent externally funded projects (grants) required.
The successful candidate will provide leadership and mentoring to faculty within the School of Nursing (SON) and the College of Health and Services (CHHS). Additionally, the candidate will be involved in advancing their effective program of research, securing external grants, and providing public service to nursing students and health care personnel in community organizations throughout the southeastern region of North Carolina, with a focus on oncological nursing.
We seek an energetic, innovative, externally funded, and talented faculty member actively engaged in oncology research and education to become part of our dynamic school research team. This Distinguished Professor is expected to provide leadership and impact, on an ongoing basis, and in the broadest sense possible, throughout their term as a Distinguished Professor. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, developing and executing a high impact research agenda, developing interdisciplinary research programs, recruitment and mentoring of new faculty members, and outreach to the broader community.
Through these tasks, the Lucy Ann Boddie Brewer Distinguished Professor will build and enhance the School of Nursing’s oncology research and service reputation.
- Master’s degree in nursing and a doctoral degree in nursing, OR A doctorate in a related discipline with a baccalaureate, OR a graduate degree in nursing at the time of application.
- In addition, the candidate will be required to meet the rank criteria for a tenured professor at UNCW.
- This individual should also have an established program of externally funded interdisciplinary oncology nursing research.
- National visibility and five years of experience in externally funded oncological nursing research.
- An oncology program of research that complements the UNCW School of Nursing’s areas of research emphasis, including but not limited to rural health outcomes, healthy aging, health systems, chronic illness, health care quality and safety, and health promotion research across the life span.
- Experience with AI use in educational and professional settings.
- A current RN license in NC or eligibility for licensure in NC
