The Lucy Ann Boddie Brewer Distinguished Professorship in Oncological Nursing
The School of Nursing within the College of Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding faculty member for a Distinguished Professorship in oncology nursing research. This nine‑month position is scheduled to begin August 2026, with an initial five‑year term and the option for two renewable five‑year appointments. The role requires the rank of a tenured professor.
OverviewAs Distinguished Professor, the successful candidate will lead scholarly teaching, research, and practice that advances the understanding of oncology and oncological nursing. The position demands a national/international reputation and a portfolio of recent externally funded projects. Quality leadership and mentoring to faculty within the School of Nursing (SON) and the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) is essential. The professor will advance their research program, secure external grants, and provide public service to nursing students and health care personnel across southeastern North Carolina, with a focus on oncological nursing.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute a high‑impact research agenda in oncology nursing.
- Lead interdisciplinary research programs and secure external funding.
- Provide scholarly teaching and curriculum development in oncology nursing.
- Mentor faculty and graduate students within the SON and CHHS.
- Engage in community outreach and public service related to oncological nursing.
- Represent the university at national and international conferences and professional organizations.
- Master’s degree in nursing and a doctoral degree in nursing, OR a doctorate in a related discipline with a baccalaureate, OR a graduate degree in nursing at the time of application.

- Established program of externally funded interdisciplinary oncology nursing research.
- National visibility and five years of experience in externally funded oncological nursing research.
- An oncology research program that complements UNCW School of Nursing’s emphasis on rural health outcomes, healthy aging, health systems, chronic illness, health care quality and safety, and life‑span health promotion research.
- Experience with artificial intelligence use in educational and professional settings.
- Current registered nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina.
