The University of North Carolina Wilmington Library seeks a Research Data Librarian to serve as a campus expert in accessing, using, analyzing, visualizing, managing, and sharing data in support of the research enterprise s is an 11-month (August-June) renewable non-tenure track special faculty position reporting to the Associate Director of Academic & Research Engagement.
The Research Data Librarian is part of UNCW Library’s Academic & Research Engagement (ARE) division, which collaborates with faculty, staff, and students in UNCW academic units to provide information literacy instruction, assist with research, develop the library collection, provide consultative services supporting research and scholarly communication, and partner on programming, in alignment with the information and research needs of campus stakeholders.
Library faculty in this division proactively engage with campus constituents to promote the use of library services, facilities, materials, and expertise.

Responsibilities - Initial Appointment- Serve as a campus resource for ethical open science methods for research data, including assisting researchers in meeting funders’ or publishers’ requirements for research data sharing
- Conduct outreach and promotion for the library and the campus community on topics relating to research data
- Provide one‑on‑one consultations and group workshops and instruction on data‑related topics and tools
- Manage and develop Statistical Collaboration and Training Center (SCTC) and data analysis services provided by student employees in collaboration with other units
- Create learning materials and documentation on data‑related topics
- Partner with liaison librarians to serve the research data needs of specific disciplines
- Collaborate with faculty and instructors to create, provide, and assess information literacy instruction for courses where information literacy skills are in development
- Provide research and scholarly consultative services to faculty, instructors, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students in areas of focus
- Ensure that the library’s collections adequately support curricular and research needs of students, faculty, and staff in areas of focus
- Engage with students, faculty, and staff, including collaborative programming such as workshops, panel discussions, fellows’ programs, and exhibits
- Provide on‑call research help during scheduled in‑person Library Help Desk or Virtual Reference shifts
- Support the mission and strategic plan of UNCW Library and engage and participate in library‑wide meetings, committees, and decision‑making
- Participate in professional development activities such as research, presentations, publications, and conference attendance. UNCW Library is committed to supporting professional development through time, funding, and mentorship
- Participate in service to the library, university, and/or profession
- Keep current with developments in librarianship, particularly in areas related to Academic & Research Engagement
- ALA‑accredited master’s degree in library and information sciences at time of application.
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in core and emerging practices, standards, and trends in research data in an academic and/or library environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis
- Demonstrated knowledge of core and emerging practices, standards, and trends in data management plans and FAIR data principles
- Demonstrated knowledge of core and emerging practices, standards, and trends in data literacy, privacy, and/or governance
