Marine Quest Summer Program Bus Driver 2026
Temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Temporary assignments cannot exceed 11 consecutive months without a full 31‑day break from employment. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to Affordable Care Act guidelines.

- Operate a New Hanover County activity bus or passenger van to safely transport program participants between events and locations according to the program schedule.
- Work as a team with Marine Quest instructors and other bus drivers.
- Remain with the bus or group during work hours.
- Maintain general cleanliness and upkeep of the vehicle.
- Report maintenance needs to supervisors immediately.
- Adhere to all New Hanover County School Bus policies and procedures, as well as UNCW Marine Quest policies and procedures.
- Must possess the necessary licenses to drive the assigned vehicle (Commercial NC Driver’s License).
- Experience transporting K‑12 students on an activity bus.
- Interest in marine environments.
- First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Commercial NC Driver’s License.
Half‑day positions: 7:15 AM – 12:15 PM, Monday – Friday.
Full‑day positions: 7:15 AM – 4:15 PM, Monday‑Thursday; 7:15 AM – 1:45 PM, Friday.
Evenings: 6 PM – 9:15 PM;
Friday 7:15 AM – 9:00 AM.
Daytime position:
Monday – Friday;
Evening positions:
Sunday, Thursday, Friday mornings.
Hours per week:
Half‑day 20‑25 hours, Full‑day 40 hours, Evening 5‑15 hours.
Hourly rate: $17 – $19 per hour.
