PT Instructor, Interpreter Education-ASL

American Sign Language Instructor

To provide high-quality instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) courses designed for university transfer, fostering students' language proficiency, cultural awareness, and communication skills while supporting the educational mission of the Department of Humanities and Education. Responsibilities include course preparation, delivery of instruction, assessment of student learning, maintenance of accurate records, and active participation in departmental and institutional initiatives.

Receives general supervision from the Humanities and Education department chair. Exercises no supervision.

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

• Provide classroom and/or online instruction to students
• Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom and/or online activities; develop, and prepare supplemental materials to enhance course readings and lessons
• Develop and prepare appropriate methods of assessment (tests, papers, etc.) to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores
• Ensure that all instruction given to students, including lectures, tests, demonstrations, online exercises, and service projects are consistent with disciplinary and Departmental standards
• Participate in curriculum development and evaluation
• Attend faculty meetings as required
• Maintain timely and accurate records of student attendance and performance using the College's online systems
• Maintain other records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements
• Stay abreast of new developments and changes in the academic field
• Participate in staff/faculty development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs on and/or off campus as appropriate
• Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area, Department, and the College
• Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and programs

Other Important Functions:

• Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and revise and improve lesson format when necessary

Knowledge of:

• Classroom and online instructional techniques and procedures
• Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the ASL studies
• Principles and techniques involved in development and administration of appropriate assessments in ASL courses
• Current trends in ASL studies
• Workplace Safety
• Principles and procedures of academic record keeping
• Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including Right to Know regulations
• Courses primarily taught are ASL 111:
  Elementary ASL 1, ASL 112:
  Elementary ASL II, and ASL 211:
  Intermediate ASL I

Ability to:

• Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations

• Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
• Making observations
• Reading and writing
• Communicating with others
• Operating assigned equipment and/or software
• Handling varied tasks simultaneously

• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
• Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
• Operating assigned equipment and/or software
• Preparing and presenting instructional material
• Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds

• Maintain mental capacity, which allows the capability of:
• Making sound decisions
• Responding to questions
• Demonstrating intellectual capabilities

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Minimum Education/Training:

• Masters Degree and 18 hours in American Sign Language/Interpreter Education from a regionally accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience:

• Experience in American Sign Language/Interpreter Education academic programs
