Position Summary
Under the direction and guidance of the Youth Services District Director and consistent with the mission and policies of the YMCA of Southern North Carolina, the Associate Director is fully dedicated to the YMCA branch facility. The Associate Director is responsible for oversight of the After school program and Summer Camp programs at that facility. They serve as the primary daily face‑to‑face contact for YMCA coworkers, faculty, parents, and guardians and help establish the after school program and summer camp at the assigned facility.
The Associate Director will provide direction for the program and classroom, implement program curriculum, and provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
- Implements curriculum within established guidelines.
- Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
- Supervises children, classroom, and all activities.
- Conducts ongoing observations and evaluations of each child.
- Keeps parents informed of all site and program activities and communicates positive and negative behavior of children to parents.
- Conducts parent conferences, maintains positive relationships, and engages parents as volunteers.
- Performs daily administrative work such as filing, copying, record‑keeping, organization, and customer service (including emails and phone calls).
- Maintains program site and equipment.
- Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, behavior reports, CACFP and SFSP records.
- Attends and participates in family events, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Follows and implements Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards.
- Trains new staff on current YMCA policies and procedures.
- Supervises after school and summer camp counselors; modifies schedule as necessary to maintain appropriate staff‑to‑student ratios and remain within budget.
- Develops relationships with school and community stakeholders to deepen the YMCA–school relationship.
- Assists in hiring, firing, and oversight of the YMCA payroll system for all staff working under the Associate Director.
- Performs all other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications- Two years or more of college experience; working toward a degree in education or related field is preferred.
- At least 21 years of age or training significant for YMCA program.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
- At least 2 years of experience working with children in a developmental setting.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement age‑appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Previous experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Must be able to see and hear.
- Must be able to speak clearly.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Must be in good health.
- Must be able to bend, stand, stoop, walk, and climb a ladder.
- Must be able to comprehend and communicate written and verbal instructions.
- Must wear eye and face protection, close‑toe shoes, gloves, and other personal protective equipment as required.
