The primary objective of the UNCW Police Department is to provide asafe and secure environment within which students, faculty, andstaff can live, learn, and work. The department is comprised of twodivisions - Support and Operations. The officers who staff thesedivisions are duly sworn, certified, armed, and empowered with thesame authority as other local law enforcement officers in the Stateof North Carolina as regulated by the North Carolina Department of Justice.

Telecommunicators, program managers, and command-level personnel provide administrative support for the various divisions.

The department also employs full-time and part-time security guardswho assist community members by performing building patrols, areapatrols, escorts, and access to other departmental services.
