Working Title

Working Title Assistant Director of Advising Operations and Training

The Assistant Director of Advising Operations and Training ( ADTR ) in the Center for Academic Advising ( CAA ) is part of a collaborative team promoting student success through transitional support programs and advising efforts supporting holistic student development. Reporting to the Director in the Center for Academic Advising, the Assistant Director of Advising Operations and Training serves as the primary leader for training and onboarding throughout the Center for Academic Advising.

The ADTR assumes responsibility for the planning, development and implementation of the Center for Academic Advising’s practices and training (initial and ongoing) for all professional and faculty academic advisors working in the Center for Academic Advising. This work includes a comprehensive approach to managing curriculum changes that impact CAA advisors and conveying the needed information in a timely manner. In addition, the ADTR provides unit level management of caseload assignment and reassignment.

This work involves effective communication, collaboration, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders, including Academic Departments, the University Learning Center, the Office of the Registrar, the Office of the Assistant Provost for Academic Advising ( OAPAA ), OAPAA Business Office, and CAA team members. The ADTR will support the advising services delivered in the Center for Academic Advising by providing coordinating initial and ongoing training for advisors, manage the pre-professional (pre-health and pre-law) advising practices, serve on assigned task forces or committees, and providing direct advising services as needed to support the mission of the Center for Academic Advising.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s degree and 5 or more years of related work experience in a university/college setting, with at least 3 years of increasing responsibility within higher education related to academic advising experience and/or other closely aligned work
  • Experience in planning, executing, and/or leading others through complex processes involving data, large groups of students, and/or families
  • Experience with and passion for working with and advising students from varied backgrounds in both face-to-face and distance education (e.g. online) environments
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational skills and demonstrated commitment to and execution of customer service
  • Experience with and/or ability to utilize and/or learn various advising and software applications, learning platforms, such as, Microsoft Office Suite, Starfish, Degree Plans, Zoom and technology-based advising…
