Light Duty Diesel And Heavy Equipment Technology Instructor
The Light Duty Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology Instructor provides high-quality classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction in light diesel systems, diesel engine technology, heavy equipment maintenance, hydraulic systems, electrical and electronic systems, powertrain systems, and preventive maintenance procedures. The instructor will prepare students for entry-level and advanced careers in the light duty diesel and heavy equipment industries through practical training, industry-aligned curriculum, and workforce-focused education.
Faculty, whether designated as curriculum or continuing education, may be assigned instructional hours in either curriculum or continuing education courses as necessary to meet minimum workload requirements and institutional needs.
Receives supervision and technical direction from the Workforce Training Coordinator. Exercises no supervision.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction for Light Duty Diesel & Heavy Equipment and related technologies courses; develop instructional materials, lesson plans, assessments, and learning activities that support student success.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, laboratory activities, and competency-based assessments; maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, grades, certifications, and student progress.
- Participate in the development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of curriculum, course content, instructional methods, and program outcomes to ensure alignment with industry standards, workforce needs, and accreditation requirements.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and revise instructional materials, laboratory exercises, and training resources.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and effective learning environment by overseeing laboratories, equipment, tools, and training aids; ensure compliance with college policies, industry regulations, and applicable safety standards.
- Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career pathways, employability skills, industry certifications, and transfer or employment opportunities within the Light Duty Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technology fields.
Other important functions may include:
- Assess material, supply, and equipment needs for the program; submit requests for the ordering of supplies. Help maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Participate in the program efforts to recruit and retain students; coordinate the development, review, and revision of program publications, publicity and other community relations' activities.
- Work with industry partners and faculty to ensure our programs are teaching the most up to date techniques and the latest industry trends.
- Serve on college committees, attend required meetings, participate in faculty development activities, and support departmental, divisional, and institutional initiatives.
- Ensure the adherence to safe and appropriate work practices and procedures.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge of:
- Strong knowledge of light-duty diesel engine systems and vehicle technology.
- Ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic problems.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, technical specifications, and diagnostic information.
- Proficiency in the use of professional hand tools, shop equipment, scan tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate technical procedures clearly and safely.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students of varying backgrounds, abilities, and levels of technical experience.
