Role Description The Barber Instructor is a part-time, on-site position located in Wilmington, NC. This role is responsible for delivering instruction in barbering techniques, safety and sanitation, and professional standards in accordance with state regulations and CFCC program requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and teaching classroom and lab lessons, demonstrating hair cutting, shaving, styling, and grooming services, and supervising students as they practice skills.

The instructor will evaluate student performance, maintain accurate records, support students in preparing for licensure exams, and ensure adherence to health and safety protocols. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development, participating in departmental meetings, and engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Current North Carolina Barber License (or eligibility for licensure) and demonstrated proficiency in barbering techniques, including cutting, shaving, styling, and grooming.
  • Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience in a classroom, lab, or salon setting, with the ability to instruct and assess learners at various skill levels.
  • Knowledge of state regulations, health and safety standards, and sanitation practices relevant to barbering and cosmetology education.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills, with the ability to create an inclusive, respectful learning environment.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to plan lessons, maintain records, and coordinate instructional activities effectively.
  • Commitment to student success, equity, and continuous improvement, including willingness to adapt teaching methods and integrate feedback.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and instructional technology used for lesson delivery, grading, and student communication.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; community college teaching experience and familiarity with workforce education are beneficial.
