Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The Department of Economics and Finance at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a nine-month,non-tenure-track faculty position in Finance at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Practice. We seek collegial and engaged scholars who will contribute to the department's mission through excellence in research, teaching, and service. The anticipated start date is August 2027.
These positions are appointed to an initial one-year term with no renewal limits.
The successful Lecturer candidate will have an emphasis on teaching while also contributing to meaningful service for the department,college, and university. The teaching load is eight courses annually (4:4 load).
The successful Assistant Professor of Practice candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality, engaging instruction and continued scholarly activity. The teaching load isseven courses annually (3:4 or 4:3 load). In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the department through anactive research agenda and meaningful service to the department,college, and university.
Both positions may include teaching of undergraduate introductory and upper-level Finance courses, as well as graduate courses in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), International MBA (IMBA),and Master of Science in Finance (MSF) programs.
Service activities may include advising and supporting student organizations, participating in departmental initiatives, and engaging in other activities that advance the department's mission for both Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Practice positions.
Minimum
Education and Experience Requirements:
1. Applicants for appointment at the rank of lecturer must have atleast a master's in finance (or related discipline) with one yearof work experience.
2. Applicants for the Assistant Professor of Practice position musthave a Ph.D., DBA in Finance, Real Estate, or an equivalent terminal degree or a closely related discipline from a nationally accredited institution at time of application.
- In exceptional circumstances, a combination of advanced graduate education, relevant certifications or licensure (e.g.,CFA, FRM, CFP), and significant experience at the highest levels of professional practice may be considered in place of a terminal degree.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills &
Experience:
- CFA charter or progress towards CFA is preferred.
- Preferred qualifications for appointment as a lecturer includea strong record of teaching experience.
- Preferred qualifications for appointment as an assistant professor of practice include a strong record of teaching and scholarly activity.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Department of Economics and Finance at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, located in the vibrant coastal city of Wilmington, North Carolina, offers four Bachelor of Science in Business Administration concentrations:
Economics, Finance,Financial Technology (Fin Tech), and Real Estate. The department also administers the Bachelor of Arts in Economics and the Masterof Science in Finance programs.
