The Department of English at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a lecturer in English to begin
August 2027.
This is a nine-month non-tenure track position that carries a 4/4teaching load, primarily in composition; there may be occasionalopportunities to teach other general education courses. Appointmentis renewable, contingent upon satisfactory performance,departmental needs, and availability of funding. The universityprovides opportunities for promotion to higher non-tenure- trackranks for eligible instructors.
Lecturers are expected to take an active role in departmental service and be enthusiastic about working with first-year andnon-major students. The successful candidate will have significant experience teaching composition and be ready to contribute to adynamic and innovative program.
MinimumEducation and Experience Requirements:
- MA in English or a related field (e.g. rhetoric, professionalwriting, journalism) at time of application
- Significant experience teaching composition at thepost-secondary level
Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a dynamic and innovativecomposition program
- Experience teaching both in person and online
- Journalism experience or training as a journalism scholar orpractitioner
The English Department at UNCW is composed of three tracks:
Literary and Cultural Studies, Professional Writing, and English Education. We house BA, BA/MA, and MA programs, as well as aCertificate in Technical Writing and Design, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Science and Medical Writing, and minors in English,Digital Humanities, Journalism, and Linguistics. Faculty membersalso have opportunities to teach as part of interdisciplinaryprograms across campus, including the Honors College. Our department features the Wentworth Travel Fellowship, an endowmentwhich allows students to travel the world for literaryresearch.

College/School Information:The College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts (CHSSA) ishome to 14 academic departments and offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs including the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts,Master of Fine Arts, and Master of Public Administration as well ascombined bachelor's/master's degree programs in Spanish and English. The CHSSA also houses the Gender Studies and Research Center and the Academic Resource Center, which offers full-service,professional advising for all CHSSA undergraduate students.

Africana studies, American studies, Asian studies,classical studies, conflict management and resolution, emergency and disaster management, forensic science, Hispanic studies,journalism, Latin American studies, medical humanities, Middle Eastand Islamic studies, Native American studies, professional writing and publishing, science and medical writing, and women's, gender,and sexuality studies.
The CHSSA contributes significantly to the curriculum thatcomprises UNCW's University Studies Program, through which allundergraduates gain a foundation in the liberal arts and develop the transferable skills essential for life in the twenty-firstcentury. The CHSSA strives in its undergraduate programs and in its University Study offerings to nurture creative thinking,intellectual curiosity, and academic integrity in students while providing them with a solid foundation of knowledge in their chosenfields.
Graduate programs in the CHSSA are designed to developintellectual competence and to prepare the student for careers in business, industry, government, teaching or for further study atthe doctoral level.
Applied learning is a hallmark of the student experience in the College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts. Each of theCHSSA's departments requires an applied learning experience as apartof the curriculum for its undergraduate majors.
