We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Project Manager to lead complex water and wastewater construction projects in the Wilmington, NC region. This role is responsible for overall project leadership including planning, budgeting, scheduling, team coordination, client relations, and successful project delivery.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, a collaborative leadership style, and a proven track record of safely delivering projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities- Provide full lifecycle project management for water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, and related infrastructure projects
- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and cost controls
- Lead project teams including project managers, engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, and field staff
- Ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements
- Serve as primary point of contact for owners, engineers, inspectors, and stakeholders
- Manage subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and performance
- Oversee risk management, change orders, and dispute resolution
- Monitor project performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed
- Maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts
- Mentor and develop junior project management staff
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction with a strong emphasis on water and wastewater infrastructure
- Proven experience managing large municipal infrastructure projects ($10M+ preferred)
- Strong understanding of treatment processes, underground utilities, structural concrete, and mechanical systems
- Demonstrated success managing budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams
- Proficiency in project management software and cost control systems
- Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills
- OSHA safety knowledge and commitment to a strong safety culture
- PE license or PMP certification is a plus
- Experience working with North Carolina municipalities
- Knowledge of NCDEQ regulations and permitting requirements
- Experience with CMAR, Design-Build, or negotiated delivery methods
- Local market relationships in the coastal North Carolina region
