Mechanical Analysis Engineers within the Mechanical Analysis team of GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH). They will perform analyses on parts and components which may include stress, fracture, thermal and dynamic loads, and vibration. The Engineer will operate in a matrixed engineering team to ensure high quality deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures and regulatory agency guidelines.
Job DescriptionResponsible for mechanical analysis activities that support:
- GVH's existing fleet of BWRs and/or
- GVH’s BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and/or
- Gen-IV reactor technologies including Natrium
- Responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering analyses.
- Confirm Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) or Reactor Internals components meet structural stress and fatigue criteria.
- Qualify RPV or Reactor Internals repairs or replacement components considering static, dynamic, thermal, and flow-induced loads.
- Translate design information into detailed finite element models of BWR primary structures and equipment using Finite Element methods and GE in-house computer codes.
- Develop creative solutions and reduce analysis complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
- Analyze primary plant structures to develop loads and response characteristics.
- Interface with cross-functional teams and departments necessary to complete assigned system design activities.
- Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures. Analysis results are typically provided in an engineering report for use by external customers.
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering disciplines from an accredited college or University.
- The required work locations is the Wilmington, NC Headquarters for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy
- This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
- Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience.
- Experience with mechanical analysis fundamentals – stress analysis, heat transfer, non-linear systems, vibrations, fatigue, fracture mechanics, and drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)).
- Working knowledge of the ASME Section III and XI Codes.
- Demonstrated ability to model using ANSYS.
- Working knowledge of scripting tools such as Python, VBA, etc.
- A self-starter willing to take initiative.
