Job Overview

Steel Site LLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join our Design & Technical team. Based in Wilmington, NC, this role offers the opportunity to work directly with an experienced PE and industry veteran as you manage structural steel projects from takeoff to fabrication and field support. Ideal candidates will bring experience in steel design or project engineering—but we’re also open to training up driven, technically skilled engineers looking to grow.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural steel takeoffs for accurate estimating and fabrication planning.
  • Manage project needs from customer submittals to fabrication to site delivery.
  • Assist in coordination with 3rd-party detailing and structural engineering partners.
  • Support project lifecycle with ongoing communication and issue resolution.
  • Participate in field-related troubleshooting during installation/erection phases.
  • Review design drawings, ensuring feasibility, compliance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Collaborate with clients, fabricators, detailers, and field teams to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain clear documentation and status updates for all assigned projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (or related field).
  • 2–3 years of experience in project engineering or structural steel design preferred.
  • Familiarity with structural steel components, connections, and building systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural/structural drawings.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills for client and internal coordination.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with detailing software (Tekla, SDS/2) and CAD tools is a plus.
  • Structural analysis experience is helpful but not required.
  • No license or certification required; however, EIT/PE is a plus.

Local travel to project sites may occasionally be required.
