Scope Of Position
Corning’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology group (AMT) is focused on aspects of manufacturing equipment across the following areas:
Development/design, Industrialization, Procurement, Deployment, commissioning, and startup. This position is in the Fiber Capital Programs (FCP) department within the AMT group and is focused on equipment deployment, commissioning, and startup. The position is for an Electrical/Controls Engineer to be a member of a project team and provide Controls leadership in the designing, building, installation, commissioning, and startup of Corning Optical Communications manufacturing systems in the optical fiber and cable division.
PLC code and SCADA/HMI development will be more prevalent in this role than most controls positions in FCP. Programming skills would be utilized as need arises within FCP and potentially within other functions outside of FCP.
- Provide controls discipline support in the design, construction, test, installation, and debug of automation/controls systems at both domestic and international manufacturing sites.
- Support design of automated cells (potentially including robotics) to improve existing manufacturing processes or create new ones.
- Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated process equipment systems to plants on-time, on-budget, and that satisfy performance measures.
- Provide assistance in developing integrated industrial control systems for new manufacturing equipment and modification of existing equipment.
- Support development of detailed process equipment installation plans and supervise contract trades groups during installation.
- Up to 25% - Typical travel can range from a few days to a few weeks during the project design phase. During the deployment phase of the project, travel may be full-time.

- Or: 7+ years applicable Corning controls and electrical experience working with manufacturing process and/or automation equipment.
- PLC code development to achieve desired operation/throughput of new and existing production equipment.
- Determines and recommends best design or solution from a series of alternatives.
- Translates engineering solutions to requirements, then further to process and/or equipment designs which deliver required performance criteria. Thoroughly carries out these assignments to completion.
- Works well with other disciplines (IT, Facilities, Mechanical, and Process engineering) to fully understand manufacturing system functionality and design requirements.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and can adjust to changing priorities.
