Our Optical Communications Segment

Our Optical Communications segment has evolved from manufacturing optical fiber and cable to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions. It is classified into two main product groupings: carrier network and enterprise network.

Role Purpose

This Glassmaking Department Head position will lead Capital Projects to expand the capacity and capability of Global OFC Manufacturing Facilities.

  • Upgrade and install optical fiber glass making manufacturing equipment, including complementary facility and process services, IT, Quality, and Operational systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead projects primarily focused on optical fiber sites in North America or international locations.
  • Oversee multiple projects typically exceeding $10M, involving multi‑disciplined direct reports and matrixed resources.
  • Partner with OFC Technology Development teams to define and deliver required technologies.
  • Use Corning’s Capital Management System (Capricorn) for project scope development and execution.
  • Manage project teams, define resource needs, interact with leadership, and execute projects using the Capricorn process.
  • Travel to project sites as needed during definition and execution; deployments may last 3–12+ months.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, manage deliverables, schedules, and budgets, and report to the Manager of AMT Fiber Capital Programs.
Experiences / Education – Required
  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical Engineering or a combination of related technical degrees.
  • Minimum of 7 years in leadership/management of capital manufacturing equipment projects or equivalent manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience leading project teams in design, troubleshooting, equipment, construction, and manufacturing cost management.
  • Experience managing project budgets and developing business cases.
  • Experience guiding teams toward consensus and informed decision-making.
  • Willingness to deploy to project sites for 3–12+ months.
  • Optical fiber manufacturing experience—in development, engineering, or operations.
  • Project Management Professional certification.
  • Technical or manufacturing leadership experience.

The compensation range for this position is $–$ for full‑time status. Starting pay depends on location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
