Position: Lead I&C (Instrumentation & Controls) Software Test Tools Engineer

Job Overview

Provide software engineering tool support for an embedded software engineering team by developing and maintaining embedded software support tools for testing and simulations. Focus on work planning, technical approach, design assurance, and execution excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute engineering support tools with common toolsets and UI development tools.
  • Take direction from a Technical Leader on the Engineering Support to define project work with proper priority and strategy.
  • Create product communication simulators and automated testing applications for assigned projects.
  • Utilize prior experience in automated testing and simulation to provide leading‑edge technologies and tools.
  • Establish effective work plans, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements, and work processes.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and first‑order engineering principles to establish or confirm expected performance.
  • Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
  • Manage time effectively to deliver quality deliverables within expected project timelines.
  • Communicate effectively to leadership regarding status of work activities.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years experience in software development and/or test engineering for embedded systems.
  • 5+ years hands‑on experience with Python for tooling, scripting, and test automation.
  • 2+ years experience developing GUI applications using Tkinter.
  • 2+ years experience working with embedded C code, including building, testing, and debugging.
  • 3 years experience designing and executing unit, integration, system, and HIL tests.
  • Experience interfacing with hardware/HIL environments (communication protocols, I/O, simulators, test benches).
  • Proven ability to architect and implement robust, maintainable test tools and frameworks.
  • Experience working in a structured development environment (requirements, design reviews, traceability, configuration management).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline.
  • Familiarity with safety‑critical standards and software verification & validation practices in regulated industries.
  • Proficiency with Python libraries for hardware interfacing (e.g., py Serial, PyModbus, periphery, pandas).
  • Experience with Python UI RAD tools, particularly Pygubu.
  • Knowledge of common test frameworks (e.g., pytest, unittest, C unit test frameworks).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git Lab CI, Azure Dev Ops).
  • Experience with requirements management and traceability tools.
  • Prior experience leading small technical teams or acting as a technical focal point.
Eligibility

This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Final offers will be contingent on the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export‑controlled information from the U.S. Government.

The candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Relocation assistance is provided.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay range: $98,400.00 – $ (includes geographic differential).
