Description
Leidos seeks a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Wilmington, North Carolina, who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves ensuring high‑quality project delivery, working directly with clients to uphold Leidos’ reputation for excellence, and gaining expertise in NESC, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design training, field data collection, and client design standards.
Responsibilities- Provide technical oversight, direction, and support for project teams on electrical overhead and underground distribution systems, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects, using customer GIS and Work Management systems.
- Assist with supervision of design staff and QA/QC efforts for the team.
- Collaborate with other design leads and supervisors on broad client issues, including schedule adherence and team quality control.
- Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow‑up; act as a representative of Leidos and liaison for our utility customer.
- Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
- Oversee team’s engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW application.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and client design standards have been met.
- Be comfortable in both field and office settings; the role may require customer‑site visits to collect field data or attend client‑facing meetings.
- 2+ years of relevant experience either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution.
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional/relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Prior experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
- Ability to provide reliable transportation, as some local, customer‑related travel may be anticipated (job‑related travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates).
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Providing estimated costs and developing a bill of materials.
- Micro Station – performing Electrical Distribution design.
- Use of work management software and job estimating software.
- A formal or informal leadership role.
