We are searching for an experienced Process Engineer at our Wilmington, NC location.
Job Summary:
The Process Engineer is responsible for improving manufacturing processes through analysis, programming, and implementation of engineering driven solutions. This role supports daily production through CAD/CAM programming and nesting while driving long term improvements in automation, efficiency, and process standardization. This position works closely with production teams on the manufacturing floor and plays a key role in transitioning from traditional CAD/CAM workflows to a more automated engineering environment.
The role is expected to identify inefficiencies, support process improvements, and contribute to reducing manual intervention in programming and manufacturing operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create, modify, and validate flat patterns for components to support production requirements and ensure accuracy of geometry, materials, and manufacturability of programmed parts.
- Perform daily nesting operations to meet production schedules across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Analyze material usage, sheet utilization, and part layouts to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Work directly with production teams to identify process issues and implement practical solutions on the manufacturing floor.
- Design, implement, monitor, and improve manufacturing processes and workflows to meet safety, quality, and productivity requirements.
- Develop and implement process improvements that increase throughput and reduce cost.
- Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives including process optimization, 5S, and Kaizen activities.
- Drive a zero-defect mindset within engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Support automation of hardware preps, standard features, and part generation to reduce manual programming effort.
- Collaborate with engineering and software teams to improve system integration between order entry and engineering workflows.
- Identify and implement opportunities to eliminate manual intervention through engineering based solutions.
- Develop and execute process improvement plans with defined performance metrics and measurable outcomes.
- Support development of manufacturing bill of materials in alignment with engineering design requirements.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for production issues and remakes.
- Communicate and train manufacturing standards, programming practices, and process updates to internal teams.
- Collaborate with production, order entry, and engineering teams to ensure alignment on job requirements and process execution.
- Monitor key performance indicators for assigned processes and identify areas requiring corrective action.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to quality, scrap reduction, rework, and overall process efficiency.
- Research new technologies, equipment, and methods and provide recommendations supported by data and business case analysis.
- Initiate actions to prevent nonconformities related to safety, product, process, and quality systems.
- Identify, document, and communicate process related issues and recommend solutions through appropriate channels.
- Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions and process improvements.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software with preference for sheet metal applications.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including laser cutting, punch operations, and forming.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general computer skills.
- Preferred experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
- Preferred experience with nesting software such as Metalix, RADAN, or similar systems.
- Familiarity with sheet metal design, bend allowances, and material behavior.
- Exposure to parametric modeling, automation, or scripting tools is preferred.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles such as 5 Why analysis, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and process mapping is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
