Job Description

Summary:

The Lead Security Engineer is a cross‑functional engineering role on the Plant Layout and Program Integration Team for the research and development phase of new nuclear reactors. The candidate will produce an economically superior design by balancing cutting‑edge and proven technologies and will be responsible for the development and implementation of licensing and technical requirements and associated work processes for advanced work in new nuclear plants.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates expertise in the areas of physical security and emergency preparedness in support of new plant design and development.
  • The role requires experience with development and implementation of physical security and emergency preparedness requirements and the ability to work in secured information facilities under both national and international security requirements.
  • Provides knowledge of integrated design processes pertaining to security and emergency preparedness.
  • Establishes processes and procedures for new plant design as related to emergency preparedness, physical security, and major event mitigation (B.5.b, SAFER, FLEX).
  • Leads the team in the New Plant design to ensure development of Severe Accident Mitigation Guidelines (SAMG) and Emergency Action Levels that pertain to 10

  • Identifies, develops, evaluates, and introduces engineering solutions to meet near‑term and long‑range physical security and emergency preparedness product needs.
  • Provides technical consultation on physical security and emergency preparedness throughout the organization.
  • Maintains an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in physical security and emergency preparedness to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs, including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
  • Effectively communicates and provides recommendations through the analysis and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
  • Provides technical guidance, direction, and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, technicians, and co‑ops.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
  • At least 5 years of experience serving in an engineering capacity.
Desired Characteristics
  • At least 3 years of experience in SGI regulatory requirements.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the organization.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of physical security and emergency preparedness requirements at domestic and international licensed commercial nuclear facilities, and the ability to work in secured information facilities under both national and international security requirements.
  • Experienced with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Safeguards Information (SGI) requirements.
  • Broad electric and civil plant systems and components design experience in Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) and Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR).
  • Ability to effectively collaborate between cross‑functional engineering design teams both internal and external to the organization.
  • Ability to effectively function in a dynamic design environment, manage the demands of multiple tasks and projects, while maintaining an uncompromised commitment to personal and nuclear safety principles.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export‑controlled information from the U.S. Government.
