Job Description
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute simulations capturing nonlinear behaviors such as large deformation, contact, and time-dependent effects.
Perform advanced nonlinear structural modeling using FEA tools (Abaqus, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, COMSOL) to solve complex engineering problems.
Leverage numerical, statistical, and scripting tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, DOE) to automate workflows, generate insights, and support cross-functional decision-making.
Develop and calibrate constitutive material models through lab testing to support accurate product simulations.
Define and implement robust V&V strategies, including experimental correlation and documentation aligned with ASME V&V40.
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering (or related) with 2–6+ years of relevant experience, and ability to manage priorities effectively.
- Extensive experience with nonlinear FEA tools applied to complex engineering problem-solving.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling, preferably using Solid Works.
- Experience developing constitutive material models for plastics and/or elastomers.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred
Skills:
- Experience testing plastics and elastomers to calibrate advanced constitive material models.
- Background in modeling and/or testing biological tissues, including familiarity with histological or imaging analysis techniques.
- Experience implementing custom material models (e.g., UMAT/VUMAT) and supporting regulatory submissions involving simulation data (e.g., ASME V&V40).
- Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools (Abaqus, ANSYS, LS-DYNA, COMSOL), along with data analysis and optimization tools (HEEDS, Minitab).
- Programming experience (Python, MATLAB) and hands-on use of testing equipment such as Instron and Cell Scale.
Physical Demands: (if applicable)
This role requires physical activity associated with laboratory-based testing. This includes:
- Handling polymers and gases in a lab environment.
- Operating and setting up mechanical testing equipment (e.g., Instron, Tensile machine load cell changing).
- Performing repetitive tasks such as sample preparation, mounting, and alignment.
- Standing for extended periods during experimental procedures.
- Lifting and transporting lab equipment or test fixtures (typically
