Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.

This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

** Role Purpose*
* We are seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Controls Technician to join our Research and Development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and improving control systems for optical fiber manufacturing equipment and implementing new technological solutions. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, a good understanding of electrical systems, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

** Key Responsibilities*
* + Support the design, installation, and troubleshooting of control systems for development equipment.

+ Design, install, and troubleshoot new controls capabilities and/or measurement instrumentation and techniques on industrial equipment.

+ Collaborate with equipment design engineers, processing equipment deployment teams, and manufacturing receivers during all stages of technology development.

+ Provide support for the startup of new equipment and processes.

+ Provide training and documentation to support the transfer of new control systems and equipment.

+ Document actions, testing results, observations, final project results, and research findings.

+ Manage a team of electricians during equipment installations.

** Experiences/Education - Required*
* + A two-year electrical or mechatronics technical degree is preferred with 10+ years of work experience in a technical field.

+ Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software.

+ Electrical schematic development with AutoCAD Electrical software.

+ Mechanically and electrically inclined.

+ Ability to read and interpret electrical, instrumentation and mechanical drawings.

+ Basic understanding of PLCs.

+ Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks as necessary.

+ Excellent people skills and ability to work well in a team environment.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

** Experiences/Education - Desired*
* + Strong decision-making skills.

+ Good electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting skills.

+ Ability to draft a scope of work for an electrical installation team and manage the team to complete the installation.

+ Familiarity with safety and electrical codes related to industrial equipment and electrical installations.

+

Experience with computer-based data collection and analysis tools such as PI.

+ Capability to use diagnostic testing equipment
