Job Description Summary

The BWRX-300 Controls Systems Design Engineer is responsible for the design and analysis of I&C systems for nuclear power plant applications. The role is based at GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) Headquarters in Wilmington, NC or the GVH Markham, Ontario office.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Accountable for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
  • Serve as the point‑of‑contact between the engineering team and internal and external customers.
  • Perform I&C system design and development from concept through detailed design, fabrication, assembly, production test, validation test, site installation, start‑up test, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to define and achieve functional, performance, reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) targets and perform FMEA.
  • Lead design and related technical scope for hand‑off to suppliers, ensuring all system and component requirements, interfaces, and functions are met.
  • Manage design authority for performance, design assurance, qualification, standards, regulatory guidance, licensing commitments, technical contract, human factors, safety hazards, reliability, and cyber security.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop, perform, and review system and integration test plans, procedures, and reports including factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, construction tests, pre‑operational tests, and start‑up tests.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 2 months of experience (including internship) in nuclear power industry plant systems engineering, controls, or operations.
  • Location requirement:
    Wilmington, NC or Markham, Ontario.
  • Access to U.S. export‑controlled information; final offers contingent on obtaining authorization from the U.S. Government.
Eligibility Requirements

The position requires U.S. export‑controlled information access and legal authorization to work in the designated country. For the Canadian office, applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. For the U.S. office, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and may be required to complete a drug screen. The role requires background investigation and, if based in Canada, the drug screen requirement is not mandatory.

  • Experience in BWR systems, controls, or operations.
  • Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control, and monitoring with safety‑related systems knowledge, including environmental, seismic qualification testing and field services.
  • Experience in Distributed Control & Information System (DCIS) application and deployment.
  • Experience with plant system reliability, simulation, and cyber security requirements.
  • Experience using industry standards.
  • Strong analytical, detail‑oriented, quantitative, and results‑oriented skill set.
  • Effective communication and cross‑discipline facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment, manage multiple priorities, and take ownership of scoping, planning, scheduling, budgeting, and corrective actions.
  • Self‑starter with positive energy, bias for action, and a proven track record of delivering on commitments in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to identify and implement better processes.

  • Pay range: $69,300 to $119,300 CAD (Canada) or $69,600 to $120,200 USD (U.S.) plus discretionary annual bonus.
