Overview
Lead Engineer – Mechanical Component responsible for highly engineered equipment design of nuclear plant components. Will operate in a matrixed engineering team to deliver high‑quality engineering deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines (ASME, NRC, CSA, and others).
Responsibilities- Demonstrate ownership and accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
- Take personal responsibility, understanding impacts and risks associated with design decisions.
- Consider customer needs and maintain open communication with interfacing engineers and project stakeholders.
- Perform component design work governed by ASME Section III and CSA codes and standards.
- Prepare CAD models, drawings, specifications, and detailed design basis documentation for nuclear component designs.
- Interface with other engineering teams, project managers, project engineers, procurement, suppliers, and other business functions and partners as needed.
- Understand component material selection and fabrication processes to create optimized component designs and address supplier non‑conformances and emergent issues as needed.
- Perform independent verification of design work ensuring strict procedure adherence.
- Work closely with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost reduction activities.
- Develop procedures and identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity.
- Work with technical leader to establish effective work plans, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements, and work processes.
- Responsible for equipment requirement specifications and drawings, and evaluate & assist in selection of vendors.
- Perform fundamental engineering calculations and modeling.
- Assess failure modes, causes, and risk in relation to assigned work scopes.
- Participate in and lead teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
- 3 years mechanical design experience.
- 1 year of experience working in the nuclear industry.
- 1 year of experience performing component design work to ASME Section III standards.
- 1 year of proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design or similar program.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills.
- Strong communication skills and capability to clearly articulate specific technical topics or assignments.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, finite element analysis, statistics, CAD modeling and drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% to domestic and international sites occasionally.
- Preferred work locations: GVH Wilmington, NC Headquarters, or GE Vernova offices in Atlanta, GA, Schenectady, NY, Greenville, SC, or Pensacola, FL.
- Role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information; final offers contingent on authorization for access to U.S. export‑controlled information from the U.S. Government.
