Job Description Summary
Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for Reactor Internal Design Tooling Team with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH). Designs remotely operated tooling to support installation, removal, and adjustment of Nuclear Reactor Modification Hardware for the existing Nuclear Fleet. Tooling operates underwater in challenging environments using manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor actuation.
Essential Responsibilities- Design Reactor Modification Tooling that incorporates mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro‑mechanical/motor actuation within schedule and cost limits.
- Draft drawings for fabrication and then build and test tooling to verify performance requirements.
- Prepare 3‑D models, access and clearance studies, drawings, specifications, and test plans to support tooling development.
- Collaborate with Hardware, Analysis, Field Deployment, and Services teams to deliver designs that meet Nuclear Quality and Safety standards.
- Perform design reviews to present designs to peers and leadership and obtain feedback.
- Write operation procedures for tooling to aid field deployment teams.
- Provide emergent issue support to customers during Outage Season, delivering technical guidance and rapid design‑build‑test responses.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design and drafting experience (2‑D drawings, 3‑D modeling).
Required work location: GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC (or GE Vernova offices in Atlanta, GA, Schenectady, NY, Greenville, SC, or Pensacola, FL). This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information; final offers will be contingent on obtaining authorization.
Desired Characteristics- Experience in the nuclear industry a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, desire to build, tinker, innovate, and solve problems.
- Knowledge of design to cost and design for manufacturability.
- Effective communicator of progress, ideas, and plans.
- Experience with conventional machining, welding, and EDM fabrication techniques.
- Knowledge of Geometric Design & Tolerancing.
- Strong troubleshooting and adaptation skills.

Location:
U.S. (Wilmington, NC or specified offices). Relocation assistance is provided. Salary range: $98,400.00 to $, with geographic differentials of 110%, 120%, or 130% in certain areas. Discretionary annual bonuses may apply.
