Job Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will perform structural and stress analyses for reactor pressure vessels and internal components in GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s (GVH) Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programs. Key responsibilities include generating dynamic loads, preparing technical reports, and ensuring compliance with ASME BPVC Section III.
Responsibilities- Execute analysis of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and business standards.
- Perform structural and stress analyses for reactor pressure vessels and internal components with finite element analysis tools and closed‑form equations.
- Develop and run ANSYS models to evaluate mechanical and thermal stresses under various service conditions.
- Generate dynamic loads due to earthquake and large pipe break for the reactor pressure vessel.
- Prepare technical reports, calculation packages, and documentation supporting regulatory and design requirements.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including design engineers, system engineers, project managers, and external partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2years of experience in structural analysis (internship may be considered).
- Minimum 2years of experience conducting finite element analysis, preferably using ANSYS Workbench or APDL.
- Experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, sub‑sectionsNG and NB.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering.
- Engineering license (P.Eng. for Canada, PE for the U.S.).
- Experience in the nuclear power industry or with nuclear safety‑related systems.
- Programming or data analysis experience using MATLAB or Python.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations and technical documentation for regulatory or design reviews.
This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. Final offers are contingent upon obtaining authorization from the U.S. Government for access to such information.
Work LocationsU.S.: GVH Headquarters, Wilmington, NC.
