OverviewGeosyntec offers an opportunity for a Professional to Project Electric Transmission Siting Specialist to establish and grow our electrical transmission line practice based in Richmond, VA. This position can be based from any of our Northeast offices or be fully remote in a hybrid schedule. The role is suited for a highly experienced individual interested in leading innovative projects, including financial and technical evaluation, design, permitting, and construction stages.
Our client base includes industrial, institutional, and government clients.
- Serve as a siting and environmental permitting subject matter expert.
- Work with clients for public involvement programs; attend and participate in open houses, public meetings, and public hearings.
- Manage and direct routing/siting studies, analyses, and associated reports and state filings.
- Work collaboratively across the firm with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, attorneys, planners, permitting and environmental specialists, real estate experts).
- Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
- Drive personal or company vehicles to client or project sites and other business locations as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Civil Engineering, Ecology, Planning, or Geospatial Analysis (required).
- Advanced degree in the same field (preferred).
- At least 5 years (7+ preferred) of direct experience managing environmental permitting and planning projects for energy-related projects or equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
- Detailed understanding of Virginia State Corporation Commission application processes for electric transmission lines (preferred), North Carolina Public Utilities Commission, Ohio Power Siting Board, or Kentucky Public Utilities Commission.
- Positive relationships with siting/routing or permitting specialists in utility organizations (preferred).
- Experience with public witness testimony and contract negotiations (preferred).
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent leadership skills (required).
- Ability to succeed in a fast‑paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed (required).
- Experience with multidisciplinary project teams (required).
- Valid U.S. driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel (required).
