Job Description Summary

The Lead Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) Engineer will immediately contribute to the BWRX-300 deterministic safety analyses team, performing safety analysis for transient, thermal‑hydraulic, containment, and stability studies. The role offers opportunities to learn nuclear plant operations, apply advanced thermal‑hydraulic methods, and collaborate directly with customers and cross‑disciplinary teams.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects and technical evaluations in Anticipated Operational Occurrences, Anticipated Transients without Scram, Reactor Heat Balance, and Thermal Hydraulic Fuel Channel Analyses.
  • Perform plant thermal‑hydraulic assessments in Containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
  • Conduct thermal‑hydraulic evaluations for BWR stability.
  • Deliver products consistently at a high quality level in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Create and improve cutting‑edge automation and methods.
  • Prepare thorough technical reports, correspondence, documentation, and calculations.
  • Perform technical verification of engineering deliverables.
  • Present complex technical issues to internal and external customers and recommend solutions.
  • Engage cross‑disciplinary teams (mechanical design, core design, licensing, systems design) to find optimal customer solutions.
  • Ensure work meets regulatory rules, customer requirements, and quality assurance standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in an engineering discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or similar).
  • At least 5 years of relevant nuclear experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information; final offers will be contingent on obtaining authorization.
  • Preferred work location: GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC (also Atlanta, GA).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s degree in engineering; or Senior Reactor Operator Certification.
  • Experience with BWR core simulation and thermal‑hydraulic systems codes.
  • Experience with BWR containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
  • Knowledge of BWR systems and integrated plant response.
  • Knowledge of fundamental nuclear engineering principles (physics, thermal hydraulics, mechanical design) applied to BWR.
  • Experience in two‑phase thermal‑hydraulic analysis techniques.
  • Experience with standard engineering work planning and design processes.
  • Knowledge of reactor licensing requirements.
  • Experience with BWR/PWR T‑H systems codes such as TRACG, RELAP, TRACE.
  • Experience with Best Estimate methodology development (e.g., TRACG).
  • Experience with Containment codes such as GOTHIC.
  • Experience with Best Estimate and CSAU applications.
  • Programming experience in C#, FORTRAN, or Python.
