Summary

Senior Nuclear Engineer (Career/Senior level) manages engineering work in specialized areas with minimal supervision. This role supports the New Megawatts initiative within the Nuclear Generation Department, including the power uprate projects at Catawba, McGuire, and Brunswick, and offers an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of plant‑specific systems while working on multi‑year projects. The position is located at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant and reports to an engineering manager in the Strategic Capital Engineering Group.

It supports a hybrid work posture, splitting time between office and remote, with onsite plant visits as required.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with site and corporate teammates to coordinate work activities.
  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity both inside and outside the typical scope of responsibility.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and have some impact on major projects.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation for problems and analyses of increasing complexity.
  • Possesses and applies fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies needed for assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Required Qualifications – Nuclear Engineer III
  • Graduation from a four‑year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer; a Master’s degree in engineering is considered in lieu of the B.S. degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience or 5 years of experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer, all at a "Fully Meets" performance level.

Required Qualifications – Senior Nuclear Engineer
  • Graduation from a four‑year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer; a Master’s degree in engineering is considered in lieu of the B.S. degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer, all at a "Fully Meets" performance level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Registered Professional Engineer, PMP, or MBA.
  • Proficiency in principles of project management.
  • Experience with nuclear power uprate projects.
  • Experience at an operational nuclear power facility.
  • Experience managing long‑range financial plans for nuclear power plants.
  • Experience with day‑to‑day nuclear site schedules and operations.
  • Experience overseeing and interfacing with vendors and contractors.
Job‑Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
  • Proficient in engineering theories and principles.
  • Flexible and adaptable to various project implementation needs through the project life cycle.
  • Proficient in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting those recommendations.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse socio‑economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in principles of project management.
Specific Requirements
  • Must be badged for nuclear site unescorted access or be able to obtain unescorted access within a reasonable time frame.
