Your work environment

The Portfolio Management team is the ‘centre of excellence’ for the in-life management of ING’s lending exposure. It covers all activities post initial funding through to final repayment of a lending transaction. As a front office department, portfolio managers closely collaborate with Origination & Structuring colleagues and product specialists to ensure a seamless client experience. The portfolio management function is organised along product and sector considerations.

Each portfolio manager covers a set of portfolio clients and acts as the first point of contact for the ongoing credit monitoring, analytics, internal risk and other reporting. Portfolio managers support the identification of cross-buy opportunities and are closely involved in delivering ING’s capital velocity targets. The team is supported by Global Lending Support in Dublin and the ING hub in the Philippines.

Together with Tribe Lending and Capital Management, it is a key driver of improved processes, standardisation and digitalisation across Lending.

Your responsibilities

The specific responsibilities of a VP include actively managing all facets of the individual files booked in your dedicated portfolio, including but not limited to:

  • Quarterly and annual credit reviews
  • Process amendments and waiver requests; write and/or review credit modifications; submit to Risk and address Q&A; follow up on required legal documentation and amendments through to execution
  • Review annual risk rating updates prepared by the offshore support team
  • Diligent and proactive credit monitoring through the review of all financial covenants and operating performance (e.g. financial models, proforma adjustments, key drivers, etc.) and track compliance of covenants
  • Identification, registration and resolution of Early Warning Indicators reflecting deterioration in credit quality

In addition, a VP will monitor and identify market developments and proactively manage their potential impact on your portfolio by

  • Preparing and maintaining reports as requested by regulators or internal stakeholders
  • Preparing quarterly Credit Risk Management (“CRM”) portfolio reviews
  • Maintaining various department and industry databases/trackers
  • Maintaining internal portfolio tracking metrics
  • Responding to ad hoc internal requests on portfolio composition and exposure
  • Coordinating and working with offshore portfolio support teams
  • Managing lending limits and Capital Velocity programms

A VP will take active part in the various Virtual Client Teams by

  • Interfacing with Acquisition Finance and sector specialists to ensure an active dialogue on credit trends, challenges and opportunities for individual clients;
  • Contributing to idea generation for value added cross-buy or client opportunities

A VP is expected to build a culture of operational excellence by

  • Staying up to date on organisational operating policies and procedures (e.g., Risk, Legal) to ensure appropriate protocols are implemented and followed;
  • Contributing to the implementation of strategic initiatives, including enhancements to the credit monitoring process to improve business efficiency;
  • Identifying productivity trends across the Front Office and using reporting insights to create and drive efficient processes and improve productivity;
  • Supporting the implementation of transformation projects;
  • Coaching junior colleagues in their personal and professional development, building a culture of excellence
Qualifications and Competencies Qualifications / Education
  • University degree major in business, economics, accountancy, law or relevant business discipline. CFA and/or MBA a plus
Experience / Knowledge
  • 6+ years of relevant wholesale banking credit analysis experience, including significant leveraged finance experience
Competencies
  • Strong financial and credit analysis capabilities, including credit restructurings with specific experience working on leveraged finance transactions
