Position Overview

New Hanover County is looking for a Fiscal Support Technician to join the Finance Department. This role is primarily responsible for reconciliation duties and administrative fiscal support.

The Finance Department provides financial information and guidance to the Board of County Commissioners and County Manager in allocating public resources to meet the needs and expectations of the community. The department also maintains accurate financial information to support overall fiscal management.

Responsibilities
  • Parking Citation Administration:
    Responsible for all aspects of fee collection from parking citations issued by the Sheriff's Office and the county's parking deck vendor.
  • Daily Batch Reconciliation:
    Reconcile daily batches from the Tax Front Desk and Developmental Services Center; review all batches to ensure data accuracy and verify that supporting documentation is uploaded.
  • Parking Pass Administration:
    Maintain and update the list of parking passes assigned to various county departments. Communicate periodically with departments to verify and update pass holder information.
  • Data entry and verification:
    Review the Finance batch daily for accuracy and confirm supporting documentation is uploaded. Post account changes into Latitude, Chameleon, and Waste Works (as a backup duty).
  • Front Desk Backup Support:
    Serve as the direct backup to the Front Desk Fiscal Support Technician. This includes answering phones, monitoring the Finance Teams channel, taking payments over the phone, keying cash receipts into MUNIS, and assisting internal and external customers in person at the Government Center.
  • Perform work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
  • Perform work during emergency/disaster situations.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic mathematical principles; record‑keeping procedures; basic accounting principles; billing and property systems; applicable laws, rules, regulations and ordinances; financial software; and office practices and procedures.

Skilled in operating computer hardware and software applications; operating various office machines; preparing various reports; interpreting financial information; maintaining inventories; providing customer service; maintaining effective work relationships; communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Qualifications and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED and six (6) months of related clerical accounting or bookkeeping experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Other Information
  • Hours:

    Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
  • Employment Type:

    Full‑time, Non‑Exempt.
  • Salary Information:
    The hiring range for this position starts at $36,325 – $49,038 annually plus a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
