Position Title

Student Financial Services Senior Cashier (Accounting Tech/Specialist) – Full time, 1.0 FTE, Permanent – Main UNCW Campus.

Overview

Lead accounting and cashiering resource for Student Accounts and University Cashiers Office. Performs advanced accounting, financial reconciliation, compliance, cash management, and lead‑worker functions.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily cashier operations; oversee receipting privileges and cash handling controls.
  • Process, reconcile, and certify complex financial transactions across multiple banking, university, and state financial systems.
  • Analyze, reconcile, and resolve discrepancies involving cash, checks, credit card payments, web payments, returned payments, departmental deposits, wire transfers, contract payments, interagency transfers, and student account transactions.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of university financial records across Banner Finance, Banner Student Accounts Receivable, Touch Net, NCFS, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Transfer Mate, Image Now, SSRS reporting tools, and other financial systems.
  • Exercise financial compliance and internal controls, including oversight of the Daily Deposit Act, administration of departmental receipting privileges, certification of state funds, preparation of IRS Form 8300 filings, monitoring banking activity, and reviewing financial transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with university departments, students, parents, banking institutions, payment service providers, and state and federal agencies.
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical support to Cashier Specialists and campus departments; coordinate cross‑training efforts; support financial training programs; participate in testing and implementation of new processes and system enhancements; recommend operational improvements.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or GED and three years of accounting experience. Two‑year degree in business administration or accounting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Four‑year degree in business administration or accounting; or two‑year degree in business administration or accounting and one year of experience; or an equivalent level of training and experience.
  • Four years of banking and/or cash handling experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience with Banner or similar ERP or Oracle application.
  • Two years of customer service experience.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a high volume/fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to research and resolve student account inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Excellent organizational, time‑management, oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience creating and evaluating accounting transactions.
Salary

Recruitment range: $49,116 – $54,925 per annum. Final salary offers determined by education, experience, internal equity and departmental budget.
