Pay or shift range: $79,000 USD to $107,000 USD. The listed pay range represents a good faith estimate of the compensation for this position. Final compensation offers are determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, experience, geographic location, qualifications, and other job-related considerations.
DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and determining the eligibility of loan applications. Responsibilities include analyzing and verifying loan applications, evaluating risks, and making loan eligibility decisions. The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for exercising sound judgment based on detailed analysis and ensuring all documentation is compliant with the relevant regulations.
- Authorizing and underwriting loans.
- Reviewing and verifying loan applications and supporting documentation.
- Analyzing loan risk and requesting additional information as necessary.
- Preparing reports on assessment findings.
- Making loan eligibility decisions and approving or rejecting applications.
- Reviewing and specifying loan conditions as necessary.
- Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Comply with industry-related regulations, requirements and state/federal laws as applicable to the job duties of this position.
- Documenting and effectively communicating reasons for the approval/rejection of loans.
Returning applications with additional documentation to the loan officer for review. - Proficient understanding of Encompass and Encompass closing docs.
- Experienced with FNMA DU/AUS, FHA, VA, USDA and investor guidelines.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with and adhere to all state and federal regulations and Bank policies and procedures, including, but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, SAR, CTR, FACT ACT, Community Reinvestment Act, EEO, and fair employment practices.
- All other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, banking, or finance preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mortgage loan underwriting.
- Professional and effective verbal and written communications.
- Detail-oriented with strong data analysis skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficient with MS Office.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- High mathematical aptitude.
- Good working knowledge of mortgage loan processing and relevant legal regulations.
In terms of an 8-hour workday, “occasional” equals 1% to 33%, “frequent” equals 34% to 66% and “continuous” equals 67% to 100%. However, some duties are performed monthly, annually or sporadically throughout the year and are essential functions.
