Description Of WorkReporting directly to the Correctional Lieutenant III and/or Correctional Housing Unit Manager, this position provides first line supervision to Correctional Officer III’s at a multi‑custody female correctional facility.
Responsibilities- Assigning lower level custody staff and overseeing Correctional Officer activities and performance.
- Arranging work schedules to ensure staff coverage.
- Implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to DAC policy and procedures.
- Giving direction during drills, searches, and emergencies.
- Referring offenders to Restrictive Housing for temporary assignment as needed.
- Leading staff in carrying out tactical assignments as needed.
- Responding to emergency situations, searching for escaped offenders, and transporting offenders.
- Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, their living quarters, and work areas for contraband.
- Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
- Preparing and reviewing a variety of reports.
- Completing annual performance evaluations and assisting in assessing, evaluating, and implementing employee discipline.
- Conducting staff briefing sessions.
Salary Range: $41,206 - 72,113
Full‑time PositionFull‑time (40 hours per week). May be scheduled on any shift, including weekends and holidays, to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.
Management Preferences- Documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures, and/or Facility Operations.
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the "Minimum Education and Experience" listed from the OSHR class specification. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) listed are used as "Management Preferences" for screening the most qualified applicants.
Minimum Education and ExperienceHigh School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of experience as a Correctional Officer OR two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:
Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
