Transylvania County EMS is the primary 911 EMS agency of Transylvania County located in Western North Carolina. The County Seat of Transylvania County is Brevard, NC. Transylvania County EMS operates three emergency ALS Paramedic ambulances during the day and two emergency ALS Paramedic ambulances addition, the on‑duty Supervisor is assigned to an additional ambulance for response and transport capabilities.
Transylvania County EMS has two EMS stations. The main station is in Brevard. The substation is in the Quebec community.
We are seeking skilled and dedicated part‑time Paramedics to join our emergency services team. This role involves performing advanced technical work, including operating ambulances, responding to emergency medical calls, delivering high‑quality pre‑hospital care, and ensuring accurate documentation through reports and records.
- Provides emergency and non‑emergency care to residents and visitors of the County; operates equipment and administers emergency medical care; transports victims to emergency care facility; and documents findings.
- Responds to emergency calls which might require advanced life support.
- Operate county vehicles in a safe and efficient manner while traveling in and out of the County in emergency and non‑emergency modes.
- Provides emergency medical care in accordance with established guidelines and written verbal instructions from physicians.
- Determines extent of illness or injury and establishes priorities for required care.
- Transmits vital patient information and telemetry data to receiving medical care facility.
- Provides various treatment techniques including airway management, intravenous therapy, drug administration, cardiac monitoring and defibrillation and electrocardiogram strip interpretation. Provides appropriate medical care and procedures at the necessary ALS and/or BLS level.
- Observes patient in route and administers additional care as needed.
- Completes and files documentation on calls.
- Performs routine and inter‑facility/palliative care transport of patients.
- Inspects and performs preventive maintenance on assigned apparatus and equipment, and assists in cleaning station and grounds.
- Participates in continuing education activities and maintaining certification hours.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Participates in public relations functions; serves on standby crew for special events as needed.
- Knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and transportation.
- Knowledge of equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents.
- Knowledge of the street and road system and physical layout of the County.
- Knowledge of ESO Data software.
- Skill in assessing a victim's condition and applying emergency medical care.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other emergency services agencies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public.
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, associates, patients and their families.
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- NCOEMS Paramedic Credential
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Basic Life Support (BCLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
- NIMS ICSC 100, 200, 700 and 800 Certifications
- Driver's License valid in the State of North Carolina
- Instructor certifications, NREMT Paramedic, CEVO Certification, Haz Mat Level I Responder Certification
