Are you a strategic facilities leader who thrives on keeping complex operations running smoothly?

We are looking for an Assistant Director of Facility Management to oversee the maintenance, safety, and performance of public buildings, ensuring all systems—from HVAC to electrical and plumbing—operate efficiently and reliably. Under the general direction of the Asset and Facility Management Director, this role leads maintenance staff and contractors, manages budgets and capital projects, and drives preventive maintenance and improvement initiatives to maintain safe, functional, and well‑maintained facilities across the organization.

You

will :
  • Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment, ensuring facilities remain clean, functional, and secure.
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds; identify hazards; prioritize repairs, improvements, and preventive maintenance; and recommend facility enhancements.
  • Develop and implement long‑term capital improvement and maintenance plans, security procedures, and custodial standards; monitor service levels through routine site visits and coordination with facility staff.
  • Manage division operations, including budgets, records, procurement, bids, contracts, and compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and oversee contractors and renovation projects, ensuring quality work and fulfillment of contract requirements.
  • Oversee acquisition, storage, and distribution of maintenance and custodial supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Respond to inquiries from property owners, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding facility projects and services.
  • Promote staff development through training and orientation programs and stay current on industry best practices and innovations.
  • Perform additional managerial and technical duties as assigned and travel independently to multiple work locations.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, business or a related field, or equivalent job experience and five (5) years of experience in facilities maintenance, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, business or a related field, and seven (7) years of experience in facilities maintenance, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent and ten (10) years of experience in facilities maintenance, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Additional Qualifications
  • Class C Driver’s License
Preferred Certifications
  • Certified Facility Administrator (CFA) by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA)
Knowledge of
  • Public procurement laws and regulations.
  • Construction and design services contract administration procedures.
  • Price trends and grades of quality of materials and equipment.
  • Methods, materials, and tools/equipment used in the care and maintenance of buildings.
  • Hazards and safety precautions common to facility maintenance/repair activities.
  • Local government practices and procedures.
  • Report writing and preparation.
  • Preparation and management of a departmental budget.
  • Office automation software including electronic spreadsheets.
Ability to
  • Resolve conflict and report outcomes in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Identify issues, analyze problems, engage appropriate stakeholders, develop alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Interpret and apply civil engineering and building construction standards, requirements and specifications.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations. Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

This position is primarily office-based, utilizing standard office equipment in a climate‑controlled setting and adhering to applicable safety and ergonomic guidelines.
