Job Summary

Experienced CNC Machinist

Wilmington Machinery LLC. is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Wilmington, NC. This is a hands-on position responsible for setting up, verifying programs, and operating a variety of CNC mills and lathes while working collaboratively with the team of machinists.

The machinist will verify tooling strategies and machine programs, monitor machining operations, perform in-process inspections, troubleshoot complex machining and process issues, and ensure work is completed in accordance with established quality and production standards.

This position requires an experienced machinist who can work independently with minimal supervision, maintain close tolerances, solve complex machining problems, and help coordinate workflow and priorities within the machining area. The machinist will also train, coach, and mentor less experienced machinists and machine operators while supporting a safe, productive, and quality-focused work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate a variety of CNC machine tools using programs and tooling generated from CAD/CAM systems.
  • Load, verify, and adjust tooling, fixtures, offsets, and machine programs to ensure accurate machining operations.
  • Verify machining programs and tooling strategies prior to and during production.
  • Run production jobs while maintaining precise tolerances, quality requirements, and production expectations.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Monitor tooling performance and replace or adjust tooling as necessary to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and GD&T.
  • Troubleshoot complex machine, tooling, programming, and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain production.
  • Identify machining problems and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate workflow and machining priorities to support production schedules and departmental goals.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to machinists and machine operators.
  • Train, coach, and mentor less experienced machinists and machine operators on proper machining techniques, setups, quality requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Assist with complex setups and machining assignments as needed.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Production teams to resolve technical issues and improve machining processes.
  • Support process optimization, setup reduction, productivity improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, tooling performance, and machine utilization.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure equipment concerns are identified and communicated promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Assist management with coordinating daily work assignments and production priorities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.
Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of CNC machining processes, setups, tooling, feeds, speeds, and production operation.
  • Proficiency with Gibbs Cam or Fusion 360 for Haas CNC Machines.
  • Strong understanding of CAD/CAM-generated machining programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, technical specifications, and GD&T.
  • Advanced proficiency with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring and inspection equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently resolve complex machining issues.
  • Ability to machine precision components to close tolerances.
  • Strong understanding of machining quality requirements and inspection processes.
