- Work in a hospital-based Medical Surgical Oncology unit
- Primarily care for patients with general med/surg diagnoses and oncology histories
- Shift is nights, 3x12 hours (18:45–07:15), every other weekend required
- Patient ratios are typically 1:6, with higher ratios possible during census surges
- Floating required to similar inpatient units, inpatient holding in the ED, or other care locations as needed
- Call is required only if called off on a prescheduled shift
- Expected to serve on Storm Team or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or disasters
- Unit uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
- Unit census is typically 42 patients
- Responsible for managing med/surg and oncology patient populations, with chemotherapy and biotherapy administration as needed
- Must attend monthly staff meetings and complete required online and in-person modules before start
- Scrub colors are navy blue and white
- No RTO allowed during the first week of assignment; must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Floating is to be expected based on census and skill set, and candidates must have no restrictions on floating
- Travel pairs are permitted if working on different units
- First-time travelers will be considered for this role
- Candidates living within 50 miles of the facility will be offered a local rate
- Active NC or Compact RN license required at time of start
- Minimum of 2 years recent inpatient Med/Surg experience
- ONC certification and ability to administer chemotherapy required
- BLS certification required
- Proficiency with Epic charting and Pyxis medication systems required
- Skills required include colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, PICC line care, heparin and insulin administration, post-surgical drain management, chest tubes, wound care, and non‑invasive airway management
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Ability to attend 24 hours (2 shifts) of unit orientation
- Candidates must be comfortable with floating as described
- Applicants who are current or former Novant Health or New Hanover employees must have a 12-month separation before consideration
- Candidates must be able to provide two professional references from the past 12 months
