Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) night shift travel opportunity in Wilmington, NC – 13-week contract, 12-hour nights, chemo-certified RNs wanted. Join a collaborative oncology nursing team in a coastal city that balances professional growth with exceptional quality of life.
Job Details – Travel Nursing / Oncology RN- Location: Wilmington, North Carolina (28401) – Wilmington, NC oncology nursing job
- Setting: Medical-Surgical / Oncology Unit (Med/Surg RN with oncology experience preferred)
- Assignment Type: Travel Contract (Travel Nurse)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15)
- Shifts per Week: 3
- Hours per Week: 36
- Duration: 13 weeks (with potential to extend)
- Start Date: March 23, 2026
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Daily Census: 42
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1710-$1800/week
- Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient RN experience;
Med/Surg and oncology RN experience preferred - Active North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license required at time of start
- Chemo Certification (ONS/ONCC) required; must be able to safely prepare and administer chemotherapy/biotherapy
- BLS certification (AHA)
- Clinical skills: colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC management, heparin and insulin administration, surgical drains, chest tubes, wound care, and isolation precautions
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record and PYXIS medication dispensing system preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- First-time travel nurses welcome — travel nursing and oncology nursing jobs encouraged for new travelers
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to medical-surgical patients with oncology histories and active cancer diagnoses
- Prepare and administer chemotherapy and biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection following ONS/ONCC guidelines and hospital protocols
- Assess, monitor, and manage patients with diagnoses such as AKI, sepsis, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, diabetic foot ulcers, and complex wound care
- Perform and document thorough assessments, interventions, and evaluations using EPIC
- Manage central and peripheral lines, PICCs, blood products, and infusion therapy safely and accurately
- Float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed, including inpatient holding in the ED
- Participate in emergency preparedness (Storm Team/Hurricane Team) and complete required modules, orientation, and monthly staff meetings
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—oncology physicians, pharmacists, case managers, and support staff—to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care
