Job Details
• Inpatient Med/Surg Oncology unit with a primary patient population of general medical-surgical patients with oncology history,
• Patient diagnoses include cancer, malignant neoplasms, AKI, sepsis, septic shock, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, heparin drips, and pain/OD,
• Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection is performed on this unit,
• Unit census is 42 with a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6; ratios may be higher during periods of increased census,
• Night shift: 18:45-07:15 (3x12-hour shifts),
• Every other weekend is required,
• Floating is required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas,
• Call is required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called-out shifts must be rescheduled as make-up shifts,
• EMR:
Epic;
Medication dispensing:
Pyxis;
Communication framework: SBAR,
• 13-week minimum contract length; contracts up to 26 weeks are accepted,
• Local candidates are accepted,
Job Requirements
• Active NC or compact RN license,
• Current BLS certification required,
• ONC (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification is required,
• Ability to administer chemotherapy is required,
• Minimum 2 years of inpatient nursing experience,
• Proficiency in Med/Surg skills including colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac,
• Must pass EKG testing prior to assignment start,
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration,

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply,
• Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts),
• Contract staff are assigned equally alongside permanent staff to ensure patient coverage,
• Contract staff are expected to participate on a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters,
• Contract staff may be consolidated or pre-assigned to alternate units as needed mid-contract,
• Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected,
• Scrub colors:
Navy blue and white,
• CPI certification and charge nurse experience are preferred; OCN designation is also preferred,
• No RTO (time off requests) are permitted after booking, and RTO cannot be worked out with the unit onsite
